Welcome to this week’s chat corner!

Optional chat prompt

If you don’t have your own topic to talk about, the optional prompt for this week is the movie “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith”, AKA the most depressing one.

I think that means we’ve covered all of the Prequel Trilogy now, so maybe a secondary prompt (subprompt?) might be the trilogy as a whole, if you have any Thoughts On The Matter.

A friend once described the ending to me as "a race to the wrong place, except they cross the finish line in a clown car" due to being slightly too preoccupied with setting up ANH to have their stuff make sense. Anyway, this one had more and better lightsaber fights than AotC (especial shout-out to the Mustafar one) and Anakin had his best hairstyle of the trilogy, so I'm willing to forgive a lot.

Haha, that's a good description!

I only watched this two years ago because I was already so put off by the earlier films. But while I found the opening with the aerial battle to be quite good, I had watched Clone Wars by then and felt everything in the film paled compared to the overall character development in that show. It was kind of a connect-the-dots plot in which everything happened because it needed to happen and not because it made much sense.

I watched TCW before I watched any of the prequel movies, so yes, I agree wrt the character development. A 7-season TV show of course has more time to do character development (~55½ hours versus under 6), but RotS especially could've done with having slightly less stuff in it so it had room to breathe/connecting the dots better.

ROTS is and might always be my hands-down favorite Star Wars movie, not because it's especially great (it's such a mess lmao, but the fights are good and all the characters are just *chef's kiss*) but because it's the first Star Wars movie I ever watched. I have a Very Vivid memory of being a kid in the theater (on a class field trip), pressed as far back into the uncomfortable seat as I could get, clutching at a classmate's hand as the Vader-on-the-table reveal happens at the end. I don't remember if it was quiet or not when it happened, but the sheer amount of vibrating awe (and a little fear) running through me at that moment? Unforgettable.

It was all downhill from there for me haha

Yeah, RotS was the first SW movie I watched in theaters, and I loved the spectacle! Obi-Wan and the flying dinosaur! :D

Say what you will about GL’s script writing but some quotes are iconic!

Is it overall tragic? Yes, but also epic!

Yup! At least at the end of RotS, GL sets up the OT. And mostly the PT and OT are symmetrical, or it’s very easy to draw parallels between the two trilogies.
