welcome to the weekly chat corner.

If you're into exchanges (and aren't already following the comm), the May the Fourth Exchange nominations are now open.

Are you into exchanges? Some people aren't so I'm curious. What do you think of the tradition, whether you are or not?

(Not specifically SW, I know. Feel free to talk about anything else of course, as usual.)

May the Fourth is my favourite exchange of the year! It's really well organised, the vibes are great, and it's a lot of fun to have so many Star Wars fans all gathered in one virtual place.

I used to do exchanges-- mostly not SW-focused-- but I quit for a couple of reasons. One is that I'm mostly interested in rare pairs or minor characters so I was always either matching with the same person or two or ending up on the immediate pinch hit list. The other is that I wanted to focus more on my own fics and not have the stress of trying to write something specific for someone specific and worrying if they'll like it or not. I ended up also running head-first into not being able to write much at all.

Can't speak to any Star Wars exchanges as I don't really write fic. However I did do several exchanges for crafts, where I was just randomly paired by a mod. It worked fairly well, though I ended up not hearing from some recipients or not getting anything myself during the 3 years.

I did one exchange where I wrote meta. I got a nice comment from the recipient but I found the experience frustrating and decided I really didn't want to do any more. Fests where you just contribute a fandom related work sound much more relaxing!

I don't do May the 4th very often anymore since I'm not really active in Star Wars anymore, but I'm very active in exchange fandom, I love the idea of having at least one person expected to read and comment on my stuff >.>

I think exchanges are great! I don't do them unless they're drabble exchanges because defaulting stresses me out, but I did run a few for some years in the DS/C6D fandom.
