Welcome to the Monday chat corner!

Topic for this week is Star Wars Insider, the official Star Wars magazine. Did you know it started as The Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine, with the first issue published in 1987?

What are your thoughts? Have you ever read an issue of it? Subscribed, even? (Wait, is it something you could ever subscribe to?)

I assume this has to be subscribed to? Can't remember ever seeing it in a newstand (though frankly most places selling magazines seem to have downsized or disappeared).

I've read 1 issue, which I got from a friend circa 1997. It was the Ewok issue (#031), natch, with a feature article about Warwick Davis as Wicket. I don't know if I still have it, but I loved it and read it over and over again back in the day. The Internet Archive has issues as PDFs if anyone wants to relive the past with me.

In other news, I discovered there is an archived version of Bantha Tracks, the precursor to Star Wars Insider at the Jedi Temple Archives.

Oh, sure it is! I was a subscriber for several years around the time the prequels were releasing -- I think probably starting a year or so before The Phantom Menace released, so that I could get all the Secret Prequel Knowledge. I have to admit I don't really remember anything ABOUT the magazine -- I'm sure I learned lots of interesting Star Wars trivia from it, but I couldn't tell you, like, what type of stories it ran or what the recurring features were or anything. But that was my connection in my pre-Internet Fandom days.
