Welcome to the Monday chat corner!

This week’s topic is the Young Adult novel Rebel Rising, which tells the story of Jyn Erso, before the events of the Rogue One movie. Have you read it? Would you recommend it? If yes, who would you recommend it to? “You will like this book if you like [X and Y], but dislike it if you like [Z]”…

I read it some time ago. I thought it started out somewhat clunky, but once it found a rhythm the pacing worked well and I was drawn along into the story.

It's shelved YA and has a lot of those elements in it (the biggest one being a coming-of-age tale), but I liked seeing more of Jyn's backstory fleshed out, especially of the time she spent with Saw Gerrera. I felt the author wrote Jyn in a way that aligned with what we saw on screen, which is entirely subjective but I liked her 'voice'.

The author also wrote The Princess and the Scoundrel which has such a beautiful cover and honestly was just everything my pre-teen heart wanted after RotJ came out.

It's nice to know Book!Jyn feel similar to Movie!Jyn - I have this book on my TBR because I wanted to know more about her.
