This week, we’re back to general themes, and in honor of the International Workers’ Day the topic is “work” - jobs, careers, professions, employments, and anything else you might think is related.

What kind of job we’ve seen in SW would you like to do? How do you think your current profession looks in the galaxy far, far away? What kind of profession is the Techno Union even unionizing? And do you think the Empire has OSHA?

OSHA? Hahaha, not with that lack of handrails in the original Death Star--though I will say the second iteration (at least in the throne room sequence iirc) does slightly better on that front.

Also, this is a great time to plug one of my favorite fics about scientists in Star Wars, Diversity Index by Semianonymity. If anyone else has any science-centric fics about the GFFA (space botany, beleagured grad students doing research, etc, etc), please let me know!

Depending on your choices, you can interact with Space Academia in my Maul IF (Choose Maul's Adventure?) Crossing Over! Another path deals with what Jocasta Nu does for a living. Since my academic regalia involves swords, the heightened reality Space Academia must involve using them.

I’m fascinated by the legal profession in Star Wars — my favourite minor character in the Jedi Quest series is Tyro Caladian, who advises Obi-Wan on Senate law and procedure in several books (and, in a touch of realism, has an office crammed so full of files you can’t open the door).

Wookieepedia informs me that, as an alternative to lawyers, there exists such a thing as a “litigation droid,” which may suggest that legal tech startups are having a pretty good time of it in the GFFA.

Still a need for the profession, anyway. What I can't figure out is why people use flimsi for anything. We're so past that ourselves in so many places.

I still don't understand why Padme was representing Ahsoka in a military trial. Padme went from being a pre-teen to Elected Queen to Elected Senator. When did she have time to become a litigator?

Yeah, yeah, GFFA, but still! Annoying.

I wouldn't mind seeing the work of other lawyers in the galaxy...
