Chat corner 100
Mar. 20th, 2023 08:07 amWelcome to the Monday chat corner!
If I’m counting right, this is the 100th Monday chat corner on this comm. That’s a number with about two more places than what I’d assumed this thing would survive when I started.
I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who comes back week after week, whether to chat or just to lurk - after all, a community is nothing without its members. I hope you’re having fun, and that this place makes SW fandom feel a bit more alive here on DreamWidth.
So, congratulations to us all, and lets see if we can go another hundred :)
(No topic for this week; if you’d like though, I’d love to know if you have a topic or convo you really enjoyed, something you’d like to bring back, or something you wish we would talk about.)

Date: 2023-03-20 02:04 pm (UTC)Thank you for running this! Dreamwidth can sometimes feel like a ghost town, so I appreciate all the effort you put into keeping this community alive. I comment when I have something to say, but Star Wars is so big now that there are huge swathes that I have little or no experience with, which makes it more challenging to talk about.

Date: 2023-03-20 07:06 pm (UTC)Yeah, DW can be so very quiet sometimes...
"no experience" -- I know what you mean. That's the downside to the format I guess. I do like discovering new things, especially when someone who actually read/played/watched it comes along, but so often it's like, "welp, never heard of that". And it's only gonna get worse as I run out of the more popular stories.
I'm already considering some kind of timeout, so topics that were featured more than maybe a year ago will get featured again. Not that I don't think there isn't more interesting stuff still to be found in the dark depths of Wookieepedia, but sooner or later we will all just stare and go "...well, that's weird" every week XD

Date: 2023-03-21 12:41 am (UTC)I think it's fine to revisit older topics--after all, there's a lot of perennial favorites, and people come in and out so it's a different experience every time. It's interesting to see how my opinions have and haven't changed over time!

Date: 2023-03-21 03:05 am (UTC)I haven't commented as much lately, for reasons of two kinds of "fandom drift"--- one, I've been paying more attention to other fannish stuff lately, and two... well, frankly, the new Star Wars canon is, ahm "going down a path I can't follow", so to speak--- I was always in Star Wars for the Skywalkers and the Force philosophy, and that doesn't seem to be where New Canon is going, so rather than being the Grumpy Old Fan who complains about the new stuff, I've let myself enjoy other fandoms for a bit. But I'm still reading, and still very glad that this comm is here!
