Thoughts about Andor?

I did watch the first few episodes, initially. The acting and writing was alright, but the pacing was weirdly slow. I fell asleep through the rest of the episodes.

If you enjoyed Rogue One, then you might enjoy the show. Personally, I thought Rogue One was ok, so I’m on the fence with this show.

I've only seen the first episode so far (hoping to watch more tonight). I can see how it would seem slow, though as so much of this was new (piecing together who he knows, what he's up to) I found it fine. I particularly loved the pragmatic world weariness of the corporate supervisor.

It's probably also because Rogue One was my favorite of the new era SW films 😉

I’m hoping that the pacing will pick up, or that one of the episodes can focus on Mon Mothma but we’ll see.

That’s good! 👍🏽

Ok now I’m just trying to wrap my head around the fact that the show runner for Andor is not a fan of Star Wars? Then why bother working on an ip that they don’t like? That doesn’t make any sense.

I'm afraid I've stayed away from any news about the show in case of spoilers, but that is somewhat surprising. There are so many people involved in SW projects who have been longtime SW fans or at least express a liking for the verse that you'd think there would be lots of such people to choose from to be involved.

Yeah, one would think that but given current LF’s track record under Disney, hiring creatives who aren’t familiar with Star Wars or don’t like SW at all, an in one extreme case, is disingenuous with the fans.. it says a lot.

Crossovers and Fusions?

Any universes that you think are a good match for Star Wars, either as crossovers (characters from one universe encounter characters from another via some kind of dimensional portal, Burroughs-Libby Time-Twister, or whatever mechanic but have their own backstories intact) or fusions (universes and backstories are "merged" in some way)? I'll answer my own question as a comment.

I've got a couple!

One: years ago a friend of mine and I joked that "Everything's better with Black Jewels", or at least that all the canons we loved work better with mechanics from Anne Bishop's Black Jewels universe. (Content advisory: the Black Jewels books have a lot of non-con/dub-con, underage, and generally kinky sexual content, as well as politically-motivated torture.) Specific to Star Wars, the mechanic where males in general and especially the Warlord Princes are expected to be fiercely protective of the women they love seems like Anakin and Ben would just both be better off with those dynamics in play. Also the thing where the power in that series is called the "Darkness" although it's neither good nor evil in itself, just powerful, invites all kinds of political/philosophical fun and games.

Two: Downton Abbey. Both universes have the whole nobility and inheritance thing going on, and also I can't shake the idea of Violet and Isobel in the Old Republic era being, respectively, a Sithlord and a Jedi Master who are nonetheless friends.

By far, the wackiest SW crossover that I can think of is probably OT Star Wars and Ghostbusters. Catching force ghosts by fueling the proton packs and ghost traps with light sabers? Wild! Janine is not only psychic but also force sensitive? Would she train with Luke to be a Jedi? Sure, why not!

For tv shows, the Orville and the Mandalorian? After all, Favreau is involved on both shows.
