Chat corner 26: Wars
Oct. 18th, 2021 07:21 amWelcome to this week’s chat corner!
Optional prompt
The topic for this week, should you need one, is “wars”. Had to get around to that one eventually! The galaxy far, far away is depressingly Earth-like in its endless conflict. Do you have any favorites? (As much as one can have a favorite war…)

If we're talking canon, I think my favorite would be the war against the Empire in Original Trilogy. That one, at least, has a satisfying happy ending. Even if you count the Sequels - a single generation of peace is heartbreakingly short, but it is peace nonetheless.
For Legends, I'm partial to the Jedi civil war from KOTOR. It might be just because I'm playing KOTOR II right now, but I like all the moving pieces: Revan, Malak, the Mandalorians, the Jedi and their decisions... KOTOR II is narratively very disjointed and I haven't gotten that far, but I do enjoy looking at the conflict in retrospect and discovering new angles to it. *coughretconscough*
The runner would be the Melida/Daan war(s) from Jedi Apprentice. Not so much for what it is (a transparent expy of the Israel/Palestine conflict), but because I've just read Defenders of the Dead and I'm still amazed how well it plays out the clash of morals/values between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Fandom absolutely does not get this book. (Not that I blame them - it's supposed to be a Young Reader book and I seriously doubt its target audience is able to read that story as anything else than "Qui-Gon is evil". It isn't, it's about faith in an institution vs instinct, long-term vs short-term help, big-picture vs small-picture... unless I'm reading a LOT into it. But I don't think I am???? Help.)
