Welcome to this week’s chat corner!

Optional prompt

The topic for this week is “planets”, by whatever definition you find useful. Death Star? Tatooine? Mortis? Korriban? That huge spaceship/space station thing from Outbound Flight? You decide…

Naboo Represent!!!

I want a Star Wars: What If? series, particularly around Naboo.

What if Padme lived?

What if Luke and/or Leia was raised by the Naberries on Lake Varykino?

Likewise! I also like Lake Varykino. Just so serene and bright.

For all that Tatooine is described as a nowhere where nothing happens, a good 80% of Star Wars video games seem to involve visiting Tatooine.

As for planets, I went to Korriban in KOTOR and immediately fell in love. Space archaeology! All those tombs to play Tomb Raider in! KOTOR 2 was not quite as direct a hit to the id, but the tomb of Ludo Kressh was fun, as were Kreia's remarks on the tombs. SWTOR's take is good as well, with an emphasis on monster-killing in the tombs and a few less puzzles, but: tombs! The rocky red desert is great. Valley of the Dark Lords; more murals.

Coruscant looks pretty from space, but the reality is kind of meh, both in the movies and SWTOR. Of other planets present both in movies and SWTOR, I like SWTOR's takes on Tatooine (the contrast between yellow sand and clear blue sky is nice), Hoth (ice caves, 'nuff said), and Yavin (absolutely gorgeous) – Yavin especially, for all that I had trouble finding nice screencaps of it.

And then there are the non-movie places. Ilum appears in TCW as well, and look at that skybox! *sighs* So pretty. As is Ossus, with its appealing red+black+white snow+water color scheme and Jedi library (...okay, take a look at the rest of the images.) (Also a redditor has some nice wallpaper screencaps of a variety of locations in SWTOR.)

...you know, considering Korriban, Yavin, and Ossus – as well as the tragically mishandled Iokath – I think I just like ruins. I would pay serious money for a Star Wars tomb raiding game where you play as a Jedi archaeologist.

Ilum is amazing. SWTOR has its misses as well as its hits, but a lot of the places are great to look at. They're hosting a screenshot competition for the 10th anniversary; let's see what the winning snapshots look like! (Alas, I play with Medium graphics, and they want submissions only at Very High and Ultra.)

Dxun's ambience is great! Actually, that's probably why I like Dromund Kaas in SWTOR – same ambience of rain and lightning and jungle vegetation. Also not someplace one would necessarily want to live, given that it's the Sith capitol!
