Optional prompt
The topic for this week is “planets”, by whatever definition you find useful. Death Star? Tatooine? Mortis? Korriban? That huge spaceship/space station thing from Outbound Flight? You decide…

Date: 2021-09-20 01:41 pm (UTC)I want a Star Wars: What If? series, particularly around Naboo.
What if Padme lived?
What if Luke and/or Leia was raised by the Naberries on Lake Varykino?

Date: 2021-09-20 03:07 pm (UTC)As for planets, I went to Korriban in KOTOR and immediately fell in love. Space archaeology! All those tombs to play Tomb Raider in! KOTOR 2 was not quite as direct a hit to the id, but the tomb of Ludo Kressh was fun, as were Kreia's remarks on the tombs. SWTOR's take is good as well, with an emphasis on monster-killing in the tombs and a few less puzzles, but: tombs! The rocky red desert is great. Valley of the Dark Lords; more murals.
Coruscant looks pretty from space, but the reality is kind of meh, both in the movies and SWTOR. Of other planets present both in movies and SWTOR, I like SWTOR's takes on Tatooine (the contrast between yellow sand and clear blue sky is nice), Hoth (ice caves, 'nuff said), and Yavin (absolutely gorgeous) – Yavin especially, for all that I had trouble finding nice screencaps of it.
And then there are the non-movie places. Ilum appears in TCW as well, and look at that skybox! *sighs* So pretty. As is Ossus, with its appealing red+black+white snow+water color scheme and Jedi library (...okay, take a look at the rest of the images.) (Also a redditor has some nice wallpaper screencaps of a variety of locations in SWTOR.)
...you know, considering Korriban, Yavin, and Ossus – as well as the tragically mishandled Iokath – I think I just like ruins. I would pay serious money for a Star Wars tomb raiding game where you play as a Jedi archaeologist.

Date: 2021-09-21 05:35 pm (UTC)Thanks for all those screenshots, that's some serious eye candy! Especially the first Illum one, ooooooohhhhh. Dammit, I might actually give SWTOR a go once I'm done with KOTOR II, if it can be this pretty.
I liked the ruins on Korriban a lot in KOTOR I too - it has a kind of magnificence to it that the other planets lack. (It's cribbed from Egypt obviously, but whatever, I don't care, it's neat.)
If we're talking KOTOR worlds, I gotta admit that I'm extremely fond of Daxun for some reason. I mean, I'd hate to live there (Mandalorians, folks, how are you not soggy inside that armor???), but I loved the stormy ambience of it.
Also, damn, a tomb raiding game in SW-verse would be so cool. Isn't Doctor Aphra an archeologist? That would be even canon!
