Welcome to your weekly free-for-all chat post. Anything SW-related is fair game. The topic for this week has been "trade", if you've missed it.

Have fun!

I did miss it! The interesting thing to me about this is that outside of the Clone Wars series where we got into more depth about the banking clans, we seem to have learned about economic issues mostly via the view of smugglers.

As such, the first scene in Skeleton Crew where physical coins are the object of piracy seems really out of date for a vast intergalactic system. I always assumed credits meant things like it means now for us, which is digital transfers of credit based on a currency.

Agreed on the physical credits feeling a bit out of place in Skeleton Crew! Especially people using a handful of coins to make minor everyday purchases as compared to, say, tapping a card or something.

Also I’m curious what you thought of SC generally! I’d mostly forgotten it was happening and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

I haven't had a chance to watch Skeleton Crew yet, but I am reminded of the physical credit bars (and what happens with them) in Andor. Precedent, and maybe a plan for some equally blatant symbolism?

It's an interesting question about how well the various shows are supposed to connect to one another. There are some clear connections (Ahsoka and Rebels, Mandalorian and Rebels, Andor and Rogue One) but I've found that the world building in Star Wars seems very much a secondary consideration. That we're getting any is a big reason why I've liked some shows more than others.

First a caveat that I've only seen the first episode so far. I'm a little ambivalent -- I'm not the target audience for a kid-led adventure. However I really loved seeing a Star Wars suburb, which is not something we've ever seen before. The entire aesthetic is very different from what SW has been until now. Given the thousands of planets I really want to see the verse given more detail and there to be more galaxy-building going on.

So I'm somewhat concerned that at the end of Ep 1 we're leaving all that behind. I also realize that the show generally is a throwback to certain types of stories that we've seen a good deal in the past. But I don't think that should be held against it as it's not like it was invented in the past decades.

I also really liked the visit to Space Suburbia! Definitely hoping we get to spend a bit more time there/return there as the series progresses.
