This week is general topic week, and our discussion topic is "seasons" of any kind. Seasons of the year, TV show seasons, social seasons, fashion seasons, or maybe even food seasoning if you want to stretch it!

I'm conflicted about it, but I sort of miss the "Christmas is Star Wars season" thing Disney did with the Sequels and other SW movies. I had time to go to the movies over Christmas break, and it felt a bit like a present. It was nice.

Although I'm glad they're not putting out a SW movie every year the way they've threatened in the start.

Yeah, I can see that. Honestly even having a TV show released during the holidays would be nice. Of course they did do the LEGO Star Wars holiday special which was fun, but not the same as a full length story.

Personally I’ve always thought of the Star Wars Saga as summer movies, like I watched the prequels in the movie theater during the beginning of summer, as well as watching the original trilogy on dvd during the middle of summer.

That's interesting! I don't actually have SW associated with a specific season. They don't really have anything seasonal in them, so I suppose they fit anywhere.

Ah, that’s fair. What I meant is that the original saga was released close to Memorial Day weekend, hence they would have been the start of the summer blockbuster season. I always have a soft spot for fun summer movies until they became the standard.

Within the galaxy far far away, they have their own seasons so it’s definitely different.

I hadn't thought about it until this question but I guess I now notice the absence of seasons in Star Wars. Mostly this is because the characters are rarely in the same place for long and the verse has the common space setting problem of having one or two locations on a planet standing in for the whole planet. So we might see the four seasons represented across different planets but not the same one.

Huh. I haven't noticed it either, but I see it. Hoth is cold, Tatooine is hot, Naboo has permanent spring/summer.

Although, Uncle Owen and Luke do talk about seasons in Ep IV! Harvest season, at least. I've done some worldbuilding gymnastics trying to figure out why exactly would a moisture farm on a desert planet have harvests...

(My explanation is "water containers have finite sizes" and "regular tax collection might result in regular selling of water before the date of said collection", for the record.)
