Chat corner 55: The Phantom Menace

Welcome to this week’s chat corner!

Optional prompt

This week we start our walk through the Star Wars movies again, with “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”, the chronological beginning of the Star Wars saga (well, at least the movie version of it).

What are your thoughts? Speaking of beginnings, do you think we will ever get a movie set before TPM?

(And for the few who have been here for this topic last year, do you remember what you’ve said back then? :D)

Wasn't there a plan for a movie or series set like 1000 years earlier? Or are you thinking like right before as in when Obi Wan was growing up?

Ok so this is the movie that made me into a Star Wars fan so I get super nostalgic for it. I first saw an advertisement back in Disney Adventures for the rerelease of the OT but didn’t pay too much attention except “oh that looks cool”. It wasn’t until in 1999 that my cable provider started screening the original movies over a period of 3 weeks to prepare everyone for TPM that I actually saw Star Wars for the first time...and loved it.
So I went with my parents and best friend to see TPM not too long after.
It was awesome and seeing Maul ignite that double blade made me team saberstaff for life (even though Exar Kun technically did it first ;) )

The amount of promotion and merchandise around this movie was insane. There were trading cards in chips (I have the full set somewhere), Pepsi Cans etc and several books...which I read over and over again.
I had all the journals (Maul,
Queen Amidala and Anakin) plus the first 2 books in the Jedi Apprentice series and the kids version of the movie novelisation.
So yeah TPM gets nothing but love from me!

Lololol you're making me feel really old here XD I grew up watching the original trilogy on VHS and I'm pretty sure I was already in university when TPM hit theaters.

But oh man, I had forgotten about the SW Pepsi cans, I'm pretty sure I had a bunch of them stashed away in some attempt to collect the set. Collecting empty pop cans. Their marketing department apparently really got it right that time.

Right, clearly I need to watch ep. 1 this weekend so I can come up with some proper content here.
