Chat corner 114: droids

Welcome to the Monday chat corner!

This week’s topic is “droids”, in honor of that one article on Gizmodo. Do you have a favorite droid? Do you have a least favorite droid? A droid-centric fanwork to rec, a favorite piece of merch, a toy you’ve been craving…

(For the curious, the topic has already made an appearance here on Dreamwars)

I didn't even clock him because I was so into the axolotl critter.

I generally prefer droids in the pet role. Otherwise I get uncomfortable about their role as slaves. There's a bit in S3 of Mando that makes it worse, like House Elves

I'd love to see someone's droid fanworks. I recced a great vid at the earlier post linked but I don't think I've come across any other droid-centric works.

Not sure I have a most and least favorite droid, as I've liked all of them in different ways. I think R2 is the easiest default answer just because he's appeared in so much of the SW verse. Conversely I suppose C3PO can be the most annoying.

I don’t think I’ve got a single favourite droid, although the anniversary of OWK has reminded me that I loved both Lola and NED-B.

Honourable mention: the fan droids.
extrapenguin: This is getting out of hand – now there are two of them! (swtor two of them)

I really like the classic astromech sidekick type! You can just tell that R2-D2 is both the most dedicated agent of the rebellion and personally loyal to his humans, as well as absolutely caustic with an over-inflated ego. T7-01, on the other hand, is extremely cheerful and can do and basically halfway to being a Jedi himself. (I once mentioned that my DS Knight had been rude to T7 to my guildies and they all went "omg you monster, how could anyone be mean to T7?" and, yes, that is the reaction T7 inspires.) T3-M4 from the KOTOR games starts off as a blank but then develops into a mysterious mentor figure, which gave me a bunch of kicks.
