Chat corner 103: Brotherhood

Welcome to the Monday chat corner!

This week, the topic is the book “Brotherhood“ by Mike Chen. Its protagonists are Anakin and Obi-Wan just after the start of the Clone Wars and interestingly, by word-of-creator it is in continuity with the otherwise officially non-canonical EU novel Labyrinth of Evil.

Has anyone read it? What are your thoughts?

Otherwise, something a bit meta: most of us have EU stories we hope will make it into the new continuity or regret loosing. But, do you have stories you’re glad to be rid of?

Well, given how much Vector Prime traumatized me with Chewie's death as a kid, it's nice that he's survived thus far in the new canon!

I'm glad everything that came after the New Jedi Order book series got wiped out.
- Dark Nest Trilogy was just Troy Denning's poorly concealed fetish list put to paper.
- Legacy of the Force has the worst most forced dark side turn ever and by the end you are praying something makes sense
- Fate of the Jedi caused me to leave the fandom until Rebels came out because I was just done with it all by then

I'm sad characters I loved technically no longer "exist" but I'm also glad that they can't be written out of character anymore etc

Certain new lore changes also mean that if old stories want to be revisited in current canon they'd have to be changed e.g you can no longer be forcibly removed from the Force, what happens to Ulic Qel-Droma then???

As I wasn't familiar with the EU I can't answer the question but I think it's a really good one, and it's interesting to read what others are saying.

That’s an interesting question. It depends on how you view canon, or the tiered system of SW canon. Growing up, I mainly stuck with the movies and didn’t read the eu books. So I didn’t have issue with keeping or getting rid of stories. They’re already published anyway, so you just either pick which story you like. I always viewed the EU as optional or supplemental material to read, and it doesn’t affect the main saga.
