This week’s topic should be from the non-movie canon content category, so I’ll bite the bullet and make it The Book of Boba Fett. I’d say make it non-spoilery, since the first episode came out on 29th, but it is a first episode, so…??? (Wookieepedia article here.)

I haven't seen the first ep yet, but I think I want to! When the show was first hinted at in the credit scene of The Mandalorian, I was like "ughhhhh who cares", but my SW fandom focus has shifted since then, so now it's Relevant To My Interests XD.

Also, fuck, it's possible the worldbuilding in the longfic I wrote last year and never posted will get Jossed. I don't mind that much, canon is but a clay I build my ugly lawn ornaments out of, but it would peeve me.

And in "elsewhere on DW", there was a discussion about Reylo shipping over at fictional_fans. In all honesty I did not read it, but I did skim it right now and it looks reasonably civil.

Yeah it was interesting seeing different perspectives, even if I don’t agree with them. Some of the comments are from non SW fans tho.

I almost want to join that Reylo discussion, but tumblr's scared me away from sharing my love for it.

I think that discussion would be a fairly safe place, since it's explicitly meant as a no-judgement zone. Although it did seem to me that actual Reylo fans were in the minority.

I also want to say, if you'd like to discuss that on this comm, you can. I admit, Reylo is a really big nOTP for me, but this comm is meant for everyone, whatever their shipping allegiances.

Alright. If I do ever discuss it here, do you want me to mention it's Reylo at the top of the post? I get how it is seeing an nOTP. Not too fun all the time.

That's very kind of you! It would be nice, but don't feel pressured to do that. :) I only mentioned it because I didn't want to give the impression that I'm a fan of Reylo, that would get really awkward really fast.

Oops, yeah, it would. That would be like this one Anidala blog I know (and Anaidala's all they talk about) interacting with someone who has that as their nOTP. I get it.

Re: the Reylo discussion. The sequels really put me off, to the point where I resisted watching the last one until a few weeks ago (out of morbid curiosity more than anything). Anyway, I missed all the drama, and yikes, I could see how it would put someone off the fandom.

Re: your fic. Canon is just a suggestion (hey, even the EU was de-canonfied) ;) Post it!!

I will definitely post it! I'm too fond of it not to. :) Only now I'm wondering if I don't want to wait until TBOBF airs completely, and then make changes to it that would reflect the new canon.

My problem is, basically, that I have a lot of original worldbuilding around Tuskens, and TBOBF has Tuskens as well. I'm 100% ready to handwave it as "that's a different tribe", especially since the TBOBF Tuskens are pretty different from the ones in the movies and the ones in The Mandalorian already, but what if there's something relevant in the later episodes?

...but that would mean waiting another two months, sob. And on one hand, I've already sat on the fic for half a year so what's two more months... but on the other, two more months.

It sounds like a cool fic!

From what I've seen of BF, I think you could easily get away with "it's another tribe." I've been thinking about how Star Wars portrays planets as countries -- making everyone from a planet have the same culture, etc. -- but that's obviously not the case (for planets or countries). I think there's a lot of room to take it in whatever direction you want.

But I totally understand not wanting to put it out when there's so much new Tusken material coming out lol

As someone who hasn't watched The Mandalorian or TBOBF, I say post it, especially if it's not Mando/TBOBF fic or the audience doesn't need to have seen Mando/TBOBF. There is always a dearth of original worldbuilding in fandom! And yes, you can always state that these Tuskens are from near Mos Ila or something, unlike the Anchorhead/Mos Espa Tuskens of the other media.
