Welcome to the Dark Side. This post’s comment section is dedicated to all the angry, inflammatory, defamatory and otherwise outright negative things you might want to express. Not that saying negative things isn’t allowed in the weekly chat corners, but… you know how you sometimes just Have Thoughts about something, and you don’t feel like you can talk about it because everyone around you seems to love it? Those go here.
Some rules:
- No personal attacks.
- If you don’t want people replying to you, mention it in the comment.
- Follow the general comm rules.
- …that’s it, I think.
Re: femslash in SW
To put my original comment in context, for me, I really only (re)watch the OT and the Mandalorian (and, ehm, BOBF) -- so, not a huge amount of well-defined female characters. I'm starting to watch selections from TCW/Rebels, but I think one thing that holds me back, beyond not being as invested, is that they are animated/meant for children. But Ahsoka/Trace was such an unexpected delight -- does Trace reappear in Rebels? Will she appear in the Ahsoka show? There is so much potential there!
I think writers also gravitate towards writing what will have an audience, and, like you said, it becomes a vicious cycle. It's extremely gratifying to write a fic that has a built-in and active audience! And can be very discouraging when you write for a rare pair and get barely any hits. Even though the readers who find these fics are usually very engaged and generous.
I really appreciated the Rare Femslash Exchange (even if my assignment ended up being the only non-SW fandom I'd selected! lol) because it opened up space for femslash and created an audience. Maybe someone would want to run a smaller, SW-focused one?
Re: femslash in SW
Yeah, if you're going just from OT, Mando and TBOBF, you really don't get a lot of women. (Although there has been that Mod Girl and Freetown Girl in the TBOBF finale! One could totally make a fic from that!)
TCW being for kids -- oh, I know what you mean. Also, Ahsoka, the one female main character, is... fourteen to seventeen, I think? Shipping someone like that makes a lot of people very uncomfortable.
I think I'm gonna try MayThe4th this year, so maybe I can nominate and request some F/F ships - maybe I can tempt someone into writing more femslash that way :D
A dedicated Femslash Exchange for SW would definitely be cool, tho.
Re: femslash in SW
You definitely should push the f/f agenda on MayThe4th!
